The first time I went to this garden was sometime in 2005. It was love at first sight and thus, it has been my favorite haunt whenever I want to get fresh air and to hide from the bustle and stresses of Japanese urban living.
To go up to the hills you have to ride the ropeway from the JR ShinKobe station. A small car with glass panes, dangling from a cable and seats 4 persons will take you up to the hills in about 10 minutes of smooth ride, with thrilling slight sways (enough for the less brave and adventurous to let out a short gasp). The ride costs Y1400 per person, and that includes the pass to all the gardens . The Kobe and the Osaka skyline view from the ropeway car is fantastic. There is a part of the route where you look down on the treetops, the dam, the Nunobiki waterfalls and it is simply breathtaking.
